Fashion exhibition of the icon Betty Catroux at Yves Saint Laurent's museum in Paris

We have visited the Parisian house of Mr Yves Saint Laurent and we want to share this great experience with you. « Betty Catroux. Féminin - Singulier » or «  Betty Catroux. Singularly feminine », the exclusive exhibition of the model and Fashion icon Betty Catroux at « Le Musée Yves Saint Laurent Paris ».

The chance for all of us, Fashion lovers, to discover pieces from the personal collection of the icon herself and selected by Anthony Vaccarello, Saint Laurent’s current Artistic director.

Betty Catroux, fashion icon and the muse of Yves Saint Laurent

For Yves, Betty was his muse, his friend, his inspiration. She represented his androgynous ideal, and she fascinated him.

They met in 1967 at Régine, a popular hotspot for Parisian nightlife. Betty was not interested in fashion; she only preferred to dress in men’s clothing. Although she refused to model for Yves, her androgynous style inspired him, and it was this inspiration that masculinized the Saint Laurent women’s line.

In honor of this pair of enfants terribles of fashion, and with a touch of melancholy, an exhibition of more than 180 haute couture pieces — of which 138 were signed by Yves Saint Laurent — immerses us in the mysterious universe of this most coveted French brand.

In the exhibition, we begin to understand how intimately these two icons of fashion were linked. Photos and personal documents bear witness to the symbiotic relationship which united them.

For Yves, Betty was "his feminine double".

Immortalized by the greatest fashion photographers such as Irving Penn and Steven Meisel, Betty is larger than life in this exhibition dedicated to her. The exhibition is being held in the former workshops of Yves Saint Laurent, where she had all her fittings.

It is also fascinating to step into the designer’s historic ateliers, where nothing has been touched since his passing.

Because she remains the eternal muse of Maison Saint Laurent, at 73 Betty Catroux was the face chosen by Anthony Vaccarello for the Fall-Winter 2018 campaign, photographed by David Sims.
