For the Spring-Summer 2021 season, the brand COMME DES GARÇONS “Shirt” has collaborated with Chinese artist Yue Minjue and with Asics also for the reissue of iconic sneakers “Tarther”, available now in its blue or pink version.

Comme des garçons Shirt x YUE MINJUN is the outcome of a collaboration between two artistic universes. From this collab emanates a sparkling and optimist collection, perfect to the up coming Summer 2021 season.

Flashback on the “funniest artist” history...

Born in 1962 at Daqing in China, the visual artist Yue Minjun is an icon of contemporary art, known for his self-portraits. He’s considered as the representative of the Chinese “cynical realism” movement.

The artist became famous for his monumental pieces which the central point is laughter, staged by various poses and landscapes. For him, the laugh is charged in different senses and permits him to 'conceal his impotence' in an absurd world or caricature standardization of Chinese society. Yue Minjun is a form of social and political criticism, which confronts Chinese history while using the Western model.

Yue minjun offers ambiguous paintings, with pop aesthetics, populated by disturbing smiling faces characters, between caricature and illustration. But his portraits reveal an inexhaustible source of graphics possibilities: the characters could occupy alone the painting or multiply themselves to infinity.

Comme des garçons x ASICS, a colored cooperation declining the ASICS “Tarther” sneakers in blue and pink. A little speckle effect embellishes the pair for bright appearance. A black and white leather overlay completes the look and forms some “strips”, as the brand’s signature.
